- H-8 crochet hook (5.0 mm)
- Polyester fiberfill (about 1 to 2 ounces)
- Yarn needle with a rounded tip
- Small scissors
- One stitch marker (optional)
- Tape measure
- One small stick or cinnamon stick for the stem
Instructions
- Make a magic ring, then chain 1 and work 8 half double crochet stitches into the ring. Pull the yarn tail to close the center and join with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet.
- For round 2, chain 1 and work 2 half double crochet stitches in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch.
- For round 3, chain 1, work 1 half double crochet in the first stitch, then 2 half double crochet stitches in the next stitch. Repeat around and join.
- For round 4, chain 1, work 1 half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then 2 half double crochet stitches in the next stitch. Repeat around and join.
- For round 5, chain 1, work 1 half double crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then 2 half double crochet stitches in the next stitch. Repeat around and join.
- For rounds 6 through 10, chain 1 and work 1 half double crochet in each stitch around, joining each round.
- For round 11, chain 1, work 1 half double crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, then work the next 2 stitches together as one decrease. Repeat around and join.
- For round 12, chain 1, work 1 half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, then decrease over the next 2 stitches. Repeat around and join.
- For round 13, chain 1, work 1 half double crochet in the next stitch, then decrease over the next 2 stitches. Repeat around and join.
- For round 14, chain 1, decrease over the next 2 stitches around and join. Add the last small amount of stuffing.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a 12-inch tail, thread it onto a yarn needle, and weave it through the front loops of the remaining stitches to close the opening.
- For the stem, chain 6 in brown or green yarn, slip stitch back across the chain, fasten off, and sew the stem securely to the top of the pumpkin.
- To form the pumpkin ridges, thread a long strand of orange yarn onto your needle, bring it from the bottom center to the top center, wrap it around the outside, and pull gently to create grooves, repeating around the pumpkin.
- Weave in every remaining end, trim the tail, and lightly block if necessary.
Notes
Make a small gauge swatch before you begin to ensure the correct size and texture for your pumpkin.
