Raised salt painting is a simple, hands-on art activity that turns glue, salt, and watercolors into a textured picture. It encourages children to explore cause and effect while creating beautiful artwork.

Ingredients

  • Glue – 1 bottle
  • Salt – 1 container
  • Watercolors – 1 set
  • A piece of paper for the design – 1 sheet

Instructions

  1. Make a design with glue. Place a piece of paper on your work surface. Use glue to draw a picture, pattern, or simple set of lines.
  2. Cover the wet glue with salt. While the glue is still wet, sprinkle salt over the glued areas.
  3. Let the design dry completely. Leave the paper undisturbed until both the glue and salt are fully dry.
  4. Paint the salt design. Once it is dry, use watercolors to paint over the salt.
  5. Let the painting dry and display it. Set the finished artwork aside until the paint has dried.

Notes

This is a painting on paper, not a washable item. Handle gently and avoid moisture.
