No reviews

A simple, hands-on project that turns glue and salt lines into colorful raised designs, suitable for beginners and children with adult supervision.

Ingredients

  • Cardstock
  • Pencil
  • 1 Cookie sheet
  • School glue
  • Kosher salt
  • Watercolor paints
  • Paint brushes
  • 1 Cup with water

Instructions

  1. Set up the cardstock on the cookie sheet to help contain loose salt.
  2. Sketch your design on the cardstock using a pencil.
  3. Trace the lines of your design with school glue, ensuring the lines are generous and visible.
  4. Cover the wet glue with kosher salt while it is still wet.
  5. Remove excess salt by gently tilting or shaking the cardstock.
  6. Prepare your watercolor paints by mixing them with a small amount of water in the cup.
  7. Load the brush with watercolor, ensuring it is saturated but not dripping.
  8. Lightly touch the brush to a salt-covered glue line to let the color spread.
  9. Add more colors if desired, using the light-touch method.
  10. Leave the painting flat to dry completely, which may take several hours or overnight.

Notes

The glue and salt create a textured surface, so handle the finished artwork carefully and keep it dry to prevent damage.
