Ingredients
- 1 package, 3 ounces, blue gelatin dessert mix
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 8 clear plastic cups, 5 fluid ounces each
- 8 gummy shark candies
- 1 cup whipped topping
- 1/4 cup blue sanding sugar or blue sprinkles
- 8 small candy eyes or 16 tiny white sprinkles
- 1 medium heat-safe mixing bowl, 4-cup capacity
- 1 liquid measuring cup, 2-cup capacity
- 1 set of measuring cups and spoons
- 1 long-handled spoon
- 1 rimmed baking sheet, about 12 by 18 inches
- 1 clean dish towel, about 20 by 28 inches
- 1 roll of paper towels
- 1 box of disposable food-safe gloves, optional
Instructions
- Cover your work surface first with a clean towel.
- Place the clean, dry cups on the rimmed baking sheet.
- Pour 1 cup of boiling water into the heat-safe mixing bowl.
- Add the 3-ounce package of blue gelatin dessert mix and stir for about 2 minutes.
- Stir in 1/2 cup cold water and add 1 cup ice cubes, stir gently for about 2 minutes.
- Add about 1/4 cup of the blue gelatin mixture to each cup.
- Carefully slide the baking sheet into the refrigerator and chill for 2 to 3 hours.
- Set one gummy shark on top of the firm gelatin in each cup.
- Spoon the rest of the cooled blue gelatin around the sharks, filling each cup to about 1/2 inch below the rim.
- Return the baking sheet to the refrigerator for another 1 to 2 hours.
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of whipped topping onto each cup.
- Sprinkle blue sanding sugar or blue sprinkles over the top, then add candy eyes or tiny white sprinkles if desired.
- Serve the cups chilled, preferably within a few hours of decorating.
- Rinse bowls and spoons with warm water before the gelatin dries.
Notes
You can substitute any blue gelatin flavor or use clear gelatin tinted with blue food coloring. Keep the finished cups covered and chilled and do not leave them at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
