Create a friendly crochet ghost perfect for Halloween decoration or gifting. This easy project involves basic shaping, making it a soothing activity to enjoy during quiet evenings.

  • Total Time: 120 minutes

Ingredients

  • 100 yards worsted weight yarn (weight 4, medium), preferably acrylic in white or cream
  • H-8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • 2 ounces (57 g) polyester fiberfill
  • 2 9 mm safety eyes (or black embroidery thread)
  • Yarn needle
  • Sharp scissors
  • 1 stitch marker (optional)
  • Tape measure

Instructions

  1. Make a magic ring and chain 1, then work 6 single crochet stitches into the ring.
  2. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of the round. Work 2 single crochet stitches into each stitch around for 12 stitches.
  3. For the next rounds, follow this pattern: Round 3 – 1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next (18 stitches); Round 4 – 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next (24 stitches); Round 5 – 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in the next (30 stitches); Round 6 – 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, 2 sc in the next (36 stitches).
  4. Work Rounds 7 through 14 in single crochet around with 36 stitches in each round.
  5. Begin decreasing: Round 15 – 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, 2 together (30 stitches); Round 16 – 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 together (24 stitches); Round 17 – 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 together (18 stitches); Round 18 – 1 sc, 2 together (12 stitches).
  6. Pause to add the face with safety eyes or embroidery thread, placing them between Rounds 11 and 12.
  7. Stuff the ghost with polyester fiberfill until it feels softly full.
  8. For Round 19, single crochet 2 together around for 6 stitches.
  9. Fasten off, leaving a 10-inch tail, and thread it through the front loops of the remaining stitches to close the opening.
  10. Weave in every end with the yarn needle and shape the ghost as needed.

Notes

Keep away from direct heat. Instead of using bright white, you could choose cream, pale gray, or lavender for a different look. Make sure to check the stuffing doesn't peek through.
