Create a beautiful stained-glass manta ray suncatcher that catches the light beautifully when hung in a sunny window. This project is ideal for adding a touch of ocean-inspired decor to your home or as a thoughtful gift.

Ingredients

  • Stained glass sheets
  • Copper foil
  • Soldering iron
  • Solder
  • Chain for hanging
  • Glass cutter
  • Safety goggles

Instructions

  1. Choose and cut the glass. Select stained-glass colors for your manta ray design. Use a glass cutter to shape the pieces needed for the design, wearing safety goggles while you work.
  2. Apply copper foil. Wrap copper foil around the edges of each glass piece.
  3. Arrange the design. Lay the pieces out in the intended manta ray shape. Check that they fit together as planned before soldering.
  4. Solder the pieces. Carefully solder along the edges to secure the glass pieces together. Follow your soldering iron’s safety instructions.
  5. Attach the hanging chain. Secure a chain to the top of the suncatcher so it can hang from a suitable support.
  6. Clean and display it. Clean the finished piece appropriately, then hang it in a sunny window.

Notes

Wear safety goggles when cutting glass, and follow the tool and solder manufacturers’ safety instructions. Work in a suitable, well-ventilated area when soldering.
