Ingredients
- 1 round plastic embroidery hoop, 6 inches in diameter
- 1 sheet of clear acetate or flexible transparency plastic, at least 8 by 8 inches
- 1 cup clear-drying school glue
- 1 tablespoon water for thinning the glue slightly
- 12 to 18 small pressed flowers or flat petals, no larger than 2 inches each
- 1 small paintbrush, about 1/2 inch wide
- 1 wooden craft stick or old plastic card for smoothing the glue
- 1 small mixing cup, about 4 fluid ounces
- 1 pencil
- 1 pair of scissors, medium size
- 1 piece of cotton cord, 10 inches long
- 1 sheet of parchment paper, about 12 by 12 inches
- 1 sheet of wax paper, about 8 by 8 inches
- 1 pair of disposable nitrile gloves, optional
- 1 roll of painter's tape, 1 inch wide
- 1 small flat tray or baking sheet, at least 8 by 8 inches
Instructions
- Cover the table first with parchment paper.
- Prepare the work area and gather your materials within reach.
- Trace the inner hoop on the clear plastic and cut just inside the line.
- Secure the plastic to the tray with small pieces of painter's tape.
- Mix 1/4 cup of clear-drying glue with 1 teaspoon of water.
- Brush a thin base of the glue mixture on the plastic.
- Allow the base to dry for 30 to 45 minutes until tacky.
- Arrange the pressed flowers beside the plastic.
- Place each flower into the tacky glue, pressing from the center outward.
- Brush a thin coat of glue over the arranged flowers.
- Inspect for trapped bubbles and guide large bubbles toward the edge.
- Dab remaining glue over any exposed flower edges as needed.
- Cover the piece with wax paper and allow it to dry flat for at least 24 hours.
- Once dry, trim any excess plastic and place it into the embroidery hoop.
- Tie the cotton cord around the top of the hoop for hanging.
Notes
Use scissors with the points facing away from your body and supervise children closely. Avoid direct sunlight while the glue dries.
