Mix sugar, water, and glue to create a simple crystal-growing craft that resembles a tiny geode. This project is perfect for children with adult supervision and involves observing crystal formation over several days.

Ingredients

  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Glue
  • A container
  • A stick for stirring
  • A tray for drying (preferably clean and shallow)

Instructions

  1. Mix the sugar and water by adding sugar and water to the container to create a sugar solution.
  2. Stir until dissolved using the stirring stick. Continue until the sugar has dissolved as completely as possible.
  3. Add the glue by pouring it into the sugar solution and stirring carefully until the mixture is combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to the tray by pouring it onto the drying tray and spreading it gently if needed to form an even layer.
  5. Leave it undisturbed in a safe place where it will not be bumped or moved. Begin to notice crystals forming after a few hours.
  6. Allow the crystals to grow by leaving the project to dry and develop for several days. Wait until the crystals reach the desired size and appearance before handling.

Notes

Handle the crystals gently as they may be brittle or powdery once dry. They are best treated as decorative objects rather than toys.
