Ingredients
- 8 fluid ounces of clear-drying school glue, labeled clear when dry
- 1 clear plastic sheet, 8 by 8 inches
- 1 round plate or bowl, about 6 inches across
- 12 to 20 small pressed or fully dried flowers and petals, each no larger than 1 inch
- 1 piece of white paper, 8 by 8 inches
- 1 small foam brush, about 1 inch wide
- 2 wooden craft sticks, 4.5 inches long
- 1 small pair of craft scissors
- 1 measuring tablespoon for the glue
- 1 small cup of water, 4 fluid ounces, for rinsing the brush
- 1 roll of clear ribbon, 1/8 inch wide, with 12 inches cut for hanging
- 1 small hole punch, about 1/8 inch opening
- 1 sheet of wax paper, at least 12 by 12 inches
- 1 piece of cardboard, at least 10 by 10 inches
- 1 pair of disposable nitrile gloves, optional
- 1 clean lint-free cloth, about 10 inches square
Instructions
- Cover your table with cardboard and wax paper.
- Put the cardboard on a level table, lay the wax paper over it, and smooth out wrinkles.
- Place the white paper beneath the clear plastic for visibility.
- Wipe the 8 by 8 inch plastic sheet with the lint-free cloth to clean it.
- Set the 6 inch plate or bowl over the plastic and trace around it.
- Measure 2 tablespoons of clear glue and place it inside the traced circle.
- Use the foam brush to spread a thin, even layer of glue from the center toward the edge.
- Wait 20 to 30 minutes before adding flowers.
- Place 12 to 20 small flowers and petals over the glue, leaving some space in between.
- Use the craft stick to nudge petals into position without pressing with fingertips.
- Release any trapped bubbles by gently sliding the petal toward an open area.
- Measure another 2 tablespoons of clear glue and spoon it over the flowers.
- Use the clean side of the foam brush to cover the flowers with a thin film of glue.
- Stop applying the final glue layer about 1/8 inch inside the traced circle.
- Leave the plastic flat in a clean, shaded place for 24 to 48 hours to dry.
- When the glue feels firm and no longer cool or tacky, cut around the 6 inch circle.
- Punch one 1/8 inch hole near the top, thread the ribbon through it.
- Rinse the foam brush and craft sticks in water before the glue hardens.
Notes
Avoid direct sun while the suncatcher dries, and keep it in a shaded area. This project is best enjoyed slowly, taking time to appreciate the subtle changes as it dries.
