4th of July Bouncy Balls

Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1/2 cup warm water Used for dissolving borax.
  • 1/2 teaspoon borax Dissolved in warm water to create a solution.
  • 1/2 cup white school glue Main ingredient for creating bouncy balls.
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch Mixed with glue for consistency.
  • as needed Food coloring (red and blue) To achieve patriotic colors.
  • 1 Mixing bowls For mixing ingredients.
  • 1 Wooden stir sticks or spoons For stirring mixtures.
  • as needed Wax paper or parchment paper To catch drips and for drying the balls.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Lay out wax paper on your work surface to catch drips and spills.

Make the Borax Solution

  • In a mixing bowl, dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of borax in 1/2 cup of warm water. Stir until completely dissolved.

Prepare the Glue Mixture

  • In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup of white school glue with 1/4 cup of cornstarch.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to the glue mixture. Mix well until you achieve your desired color.

Combine Mixtures

  • Slowly pour the borax solution into the glue mixture.
  • Stir continuously. You will notice it starting to form a gel-like consistency.

Form Bouncy Balls

  • Allow the mixture to sit for a couple of minutes until it thickens.
  • Once thick, take the mass out of the bowl and roll it between your hands to form a ball.

Let Them Dry

  • Place the newly formed bouncy balls on the wax paper.
  • Allow them to dry for at least 24 hours.

Notes

Try mixing red and blue food coloring for a swirled effect. You can also add glitter for sparkle or essential oils for scent. Experiment with colors to make different ball designs for various holidays.
