  • 1 cup water Room temperature water
  • ½ cup baking soda Standard baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar Fresh vinegar for bubbling reaction
  • Food coloring (optional) To add color to crystals
  • Pipe cleaners (any color) To shape the tree
  • A spoon For mixing
  • A glass container For growing the crystals
  • A tray or plate To catch spills

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Twist and shape the pipe cleaners into a tree form, making a trunk and branches.
  • In a bowl, mix 1 cup of water with ½ cup of baking soda until fully dissolved.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the mixture, which will bubble and fizz.
  • If desired, mix in a few drops of food coloring into the solution.
  • Place the tree shape into the glass container, ensuring it fits properly.
  • Pour the baking soda mixture over the tree until it is submerged.

Crystal Growth

  • Place the container in a cool, undisturbed area.
  • Check on your tree daily to observe the formation of crystals.
  • Allow some time for the crystals to grow—this process can take several days.

Notes

Experiment with different colors and shapes. Use salt or sugar for different types of crystals. Decorate the base of the crystal tree for added flair.
