Baking Soda Dinosaur Eggs
A fun and educational craft project that combines creativity with science by making fizzing dinosaur eggs using baking soda and vinegar.
Ingredients
For the Egg Mixture
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup water
- 1-2 teaspoons vinegar For activating the fizz
- Optional food coloring (green, brown, or any dino colors)
Extras
- small size plastic dinosaur toys Make sure they are not heavy
- 1 mixing bowl mixing bowl
- 1 spoon mixing spoon
- 1 baking tray or parchment paper To prevent sticking
- 1 oven Optional, for hardening eggs
Instructions
Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of water.
- If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the mixture for a fun color!
Shaping
- Add small plastic dinosaur toys into the mixture, ensuring they are coated.
- Using your hands, mold the mixture into egg shapes with a crumbly yet cohesive texture.
Drying the Eggs
- Place the shaped eggs on a baking tray lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Let the eggs air dry for 24 hours or place them in the oven at a low temperature (200°F) for about 30 minutes to harden.
Hatching
- Once the eggs harden, grab your vinegar to initiate the fizzing magic!
- When ready to 'hatch', place the eggs in a container and pour vinegar over them.
Notes
Store the dinosaur eggs in an airtight container to keep them dry until ready to use. They can last indefinitely if dried properly, but use them within a few weeks for best results. Experiment with different textures or toy dinosaurs for added fun.
