Baking Soda Fizzing Trees

Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 cup Baking soda
  • 1 cup White vinegar
  • optional Food coloring Can change colors for decoration
  • 1 Plastic squeeze bottle or dropper For applying vinegar
  • 2-3 Small plastic trees or natural branches
  • 1 Tray or baking sheet To catch spills
  • 1 Paper towels For cleanup

Instructions
 

Setup

  • Cover your workspace with a tray or baking sheet to catch any spills.
  • Set up your small plastic trees or natural branches on the tray.

Create the Fizzing Mixture

  • In a separate bowl, mix a few tablespoons of baking soda with a couple of drops of food coloring if desired.
  • Stir until the mixture is uniform in color.

Apply the Mixture

  • Use your hands or a spoon to sprinkle the baking soda mixture onto the branches or trees, coating them well.

Activate the Fizz

  • Fill the plastic squeeze bottle with white vinegar.
  • Carefully squeeze or drop the vinegar over the baking soda-coated trees.
  • Watch as the fizzy reaction takes place and enjoy the sensory experience!

Cleanup

  • Allow the fizzing to finish, and use paper towels to clean up any excess mixture.

Notes

Consider adding glow-in-the-dark paint or essential oils for extra sensory enjoyment. This project can also be adapted for outdoor play.
