Ingredients

For the snowman

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup Can be substituted with sugar or gelatin.
  • optional food coloring For added decoration.

For decoration

  • pipe cleaners For arms and accessories.
  • googly eyes For facial features.

Tools Needed

  • a bowl For mixing.
  • a baking sheet or plate For display.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1/4 cup of water. Stir until you achieve a smooth, thick paste.
  • Use your hands to mold the baking soda mixture into three snowballs of different sizes. Stack the smaller ball on top of the medium ball, and the medium ball on top of the larger one.

Creating Crystal Solution

  • In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup of corn syrup with a small amount of water. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring for extra flair.
  • Carefully pour the syrup mixture over the snowman, ensuring it drenches the sides. Let it sit on a baking sheet or plate to catch any overflow.

Observation

  • Place your snowman in a cool, dry spot and leave it undisturbed. Over the next few days, crystals will begin to form, giving your snowman a sparkling snow effect.
  • Once the crystals have formed, decorate your snowman with pipe cleaners for arms, googly eyes for a face, or any other creative accessories you choose.

Notes

Customize shapes by experimenting with snowflakes or other winter themes. Use different colors of food coloring for distinctive looks. Incorporate glitter for added visual appeal.
