  • 1 cup Baking soda
  • 1 cup White vinegar Can substitute with any type of vinegar.
  • optional Food coloring Use for colorful trees.

  • 2 pieces Small plastic cups or bowls For mixing and pouring.
  • 1 tray Tray or shallow dish To catch overflow from the reaction.
  • 5 pieces Wooden sticks or toothpicks For tree trunks.
  • 1 piece Cardboard or sturdy paper To serve as the base.

Preparation

  • Take a piece of cardboard or a sturdy paper to serve as the base for your trees.
  • Spread a layer of baking soda over the base, forming small mounds or 'land.'
  • Insert wooden sticks or toothpicks vertically into the baking soda mounds to serve as tree trunks.
  • In a separate cup, mix white vinegar with a few drops of food coloring if you wish for colorful trees.
  • Carefully pour the colored vinegar over the baking soda mounds.
  • Watch as the reaction occurs! The combination will create bubbling, frothy 'leaves' that simulate trees growing.
  • Take time to observe the reaction. Feel free to add more vinegar and enjoy the expanding growth over time!

Notes

Customizable with different colors of food coloring and can add textures with salt or glitter for decorations.
