Preparation

  • Lay down a tray to catch any overflow. Ensure your workspace is clean and ready for some messy fun!

Mix the Base

  • In your small container, combine 3 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of salt. Mix them well with a spoon until evenly combined.

Create the Mixture

  • Gradually add 3 tablespoons of water to the dry mix, stirring as you go until you achieve a thick paste.

Shape Your Trees

  • Using your hands or a spoon, shape your mixture into tree-like structures on the cardboard or flat surface. Let your creativity flow!

Add Color

  • If you want colorful trees, sprinkle a few drops of food coloring on your tree shapes.

The Magic Begins

  • Slowly pour vinegar over your tree structures. Watch as they begin to fizz and grow, creating a beautiful reaction!

Let Them Dry

  • Allow your tree creations to sit for several hours or overnight to allow crystallization to happen. Observe the changes!

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations for unique shades. Consider sprinkling Epsom salt for a different texture in the crystals. Paint your cardboard base green to mimic grass or use small toys to create a scene around your trees.
