Preparation

  • Cover your workspace with parchment paper or foil to avoid any mess.

Making the Mixture

  • In a mixing bowl, gradually combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1/3 cup of white vinegar.
  • Watch as the mixture fizzes and bubbles due to the reaction.
  • Stir in 1 tablespoon of corn syrup until well blended.
  • If using food coloring, add a few drops and mix until the color is even.

Shaping Trees

  • Scoop the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, forming tree shapes.
  • Insert a toothpick or small stick for the tree trunk.

Drying and Observing

  • Leave the trees to dry for 24-48 hours.
  • Observe the textured, crystalline appearance once dry.

Notes

Variations include trying different colors of food coloring, using cookie cutters for shapes, and incorporating natural elements for visual appeal. The crafting can be a great group activity for kids and parties.
