Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the baking soda and corn starch.
  • Slowly add the white vinegar while stirring. Expect bubbling and fizzing.
  • Mix until well combined, then gradually add the water to create a dough-like consistency.

Cooking

  • Transfer the mixture to a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Stir continuously for about 5-7 minutes until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan, forming a cohesive mass.

Shaping

  • Once cool enough to handle, knead the dough lightly. Add food coloring or glitter if desired.
  • Shape the dough into tree forms; think of branches and trunks. Use fingers or sculpting tools for detail.

Drying

  • Place the shaped trees onto a lined baking sheet.
  • Allow them to dry completely, preferably overnight, to harden.

Decorating

  • Once dry, you can paint or add additional decorations to your winter trees.

Notes
