  • 1 large sheet Watercolor paper or canvas Surface for painting
  • 1 piece Plastic or disposable tablecloth For easy cleanup

Instructions

Preparation

  • Ensure you have all materials ready. Lay down the plastic tablecloth to protect your work surface.

Creating the Base

  • Spread a generous layer of baking soda onto your watercolor paper or canvas.
  • Use your hands or a spoon to create textures or shapes within the baking soda.

Mixing Colors

  • In small containers, mix vinegar with a few drops of food coloring or liquid watercolors.
  • Stir gently to create vibrant colors.

Painting

  • Using a paintbrush or dropper, apply the colored vinegar onto the baking soda.
  • Watch as it fizzes and bubbles, creating beautiful patterns and reactions.

Drying

  • Once you’ve created your masterpiece, set it aside to dry completely.
  • The fizzing will settle, leaving colorful designs on your paper or canvas.

Notes

Try adding glitter to the baking soda for a sparkly effect. Experiment with different amounts of vinegar for varying bubble reactions. Instead of white vinegar, use apple cider vinegar for a slightly different color palette. Use a sponge instead of a brush for a different texture.
