Baking Soda Painting

Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 2 tablespoons Baking soda For the paint mixture.
  • 2 tablespoons Water To mix with the baking soda.
  • various drops Food coloring For adding color to the mixtures.
  • 1 piece Thick paper or watercolor paper Surface to paint on.
  • 1 piece Tray or plastic sheet For easy cleanup.
  • as needed pieces Small cups or containers To mix the paint.
  • as needed pieces Paintbrushes or droppers For applying the paint.
  • as needed amounts White vinegar To create the fizzing reaction.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In each small cup, mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of water.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to each mixture and stir until well combined.

Setup

  • Lay down thick paper or watercolor paper on a flat surface.
  • Place trays or plastic sheets underneath to catch any spills.

Painting

  • Use a paintbrush or dropper to apply the colored baking soda mixture onto the paper, experimenting with different strokes or patterns.
  • Feel the texture of the mixture as it is grainy and thick.

Fizzling Reaction

  • In separate cups, pour a small amount of vinegar.
  • Using a droplet or small spoon, drizzle vinegar over the painted areas and watch as it fizzes and bubbles!

Drying

  • Allow your artwork to dry completely before displaying. The colors will set and create a unique texture.

Notes

Customize colors, experiment with different paper types, add glitter for extra sparkle, and create layered effects for more depth!
