Ingredients

Volcano Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar You may try different types of vinegar for varied effects.
  • food coloring (optional) To customize the 'lava' color.
  • small plastic or paper cup This will shape the volcano.
  • tray or cardboard base To catch overflow.
  • dish soap (optional) For a foamier eruption.
  • plastic figures or decorations To enhance the volcano.

Instructions

Building the Volcano

  • Place the cup in the center of your tray or cardboard base. This will act as the volcano's core.
  • Use modeling clay, playdough, or sand to build a mountain shape around the cup, leaving the top open.
  • Ensure the shape resembles a volcano, tapering off at the top.

Preparing for Eruption

  • In a separate bowl, mix the baking soda with a few drops of food coloring and dish soap for added foamy effect.
  • Carefully pour this mixture into the open cup.

Starting the Eruption

  • When you're ready for fun, slowly pour vinegar into the cup with the baking soda mixture.
  • Step back and watch as the chemical reaction causes the 'lava' to bubble and overflow dramatically!

Enjoy and Clean Up

  • After the excitement, allow your volcano to settle.
  • Dispose of the remnants easily and clean your tray.

Notes

Customize the volcano shape with different materials like papier-mâché for a more elaborate project. Document your eruption with photos or videos to share with friends.
