Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 5 pieces Balloons (various colors)
  • 1 cup Baking soda Use 1-2 tablespoons per balloon
  • 1/2 cup Vinegar Adjust as necessary
  • 1 piece Funnel To fill the balloons
  • as desired drops Food coloring Optional for color
  • 1 piece Plastic cups or containers To mix vinegar
  • 1 piece Paper towels For cleaning up spills

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Use a funnel to fill each balloon with 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to each balloon for added fun (optional).
  • Carefully stretch the balloon to ensure the baking soda settles.

Mixing

  • Pour about half a cup of vinegar into a plastic cup or container.
  • If desired, add more food coloring to enhance the mixture.

Combining and Observing

  • Once ready, stretch the opening of the balloon over the cup or container, ensuring it doesn’t touch the vinegar yet.
  • When ready, lift the balloon, allowing the baking soda to fall into the vinegar.
  • Watch as the mixture fizzes and bubbles, filling the balloon with gas!
  • Feel the texture of the balloon as it expands.

Clean-Up

  • Carefully remove the balloon and dispose of any residue properly.
  • Enjoy the colorful mess, and don’t hesitate to clean up any spills!

Notes

Customize your colors and experiment with different materials for varied effects. Scale the ingredients for larger reactions or add essential oils for scent.
