  • 2 teaspoons Baking soda A common kitchen staple
  • 1/2 cup Vinegar Can substitute with citrus juice if desired
  • 1 piece A small container (like a cup or jar)
  • 1 piece A funnel (optional, for easier filling)
  • 1 piece A marker (optional, to personalize your balloons)

Preparation

  • Prepare Your Workspace: Find a quiet area where you can explore without distractions. Lay out your materials, enjoying the colors and shapes before you.
  • Get the Balloon Ready: Stretch the balloon gently to make it easier to inflate later.
  • Measure the Baking Soda: Use a spoon to scoop about two teaspoons of baking soda into the container.
  • Add Vinegar: Pour about half a cup of vinegar into the container with the baking soda.
  • Inflate the Balloon: Using the funnel, pour a small amount of the baking soda into the balloon if you’re using it. If not, just hold the balloon at the open end facing the container.
  • Combine Elements: Carefully lift the balloon and tip it to release the baking soda into the vinegar.
  • Watch the Reaction: Observe the colors swirling and the balloon expanding.
  • Secure the Balloon: Once you see the balloon filled to your satisfaction, pinch the neck closed and tie a knot.
