Instructions
Preparing the Bioplastic Mixture
- Mix the cornstarch, water, and corn syrup in a medium saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and becomes translucent (about 5-10 minutes).
- Add food coloring if desired, stirring until evenly colored.
Shaping Your Sun Catcher
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly for easier handling.
- Spoon the mixture onto wax paper, spreading it to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to shape your sun catcher while the mixture is still soft, removing excess bioplastic from around the shapes.
Drying
- Spray the shapes lightly with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
- Allow the sun catchers to dry completely for 24-48 hours until hardened.
Finishing Touches
- Carefully peel the dried sun catchers from the wax paper.
- Trim the edges using scissors or a craft knife if needed.
- String through a hole if desired and hang in a sunny window.
