Ingredients
  

Bioplastic Mixture

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin Can substitute with more water, but may reduce flexibility
  • various drops food coloring Various colors for customization

Tools and Materials

  • 1 piece non-stick pan For cooking the bioplastic mixture
  • 1 spoon stirring spoon For mixing ingredients
  • 1 sheet wax paper or parchment paper To pour the mixture onto
  • various pieces cookie cutters In various shapes
  • 1 piece string or ribbon For hanging the finished sun catchers

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a non-stick pan, combine 1 cup of cornstarch, 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of glycerin.
  • Stir the mixture slowly over medium heat until it begins to thicken.

Coloring

  • Once the mixture thickens to a gel-like consistency, remove it from the heat.
  • Divide the mixture into small bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each. Mix until the desired color is achieved.

Shaping

  • On a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper, pour the colored mixtures into cookie cutter shapes.
  • Use a spoon or spatula to spread evenly and smooth the top.

Drying

  • Leave the sun catchers to dry for 24-48 hours. They should be firm but flexible.
  • Once dry, carefully remove them from the wax paper.

Finishing Touches

  • Using a small hole punch or a knife, create a hole at the top of each sun catcher and thread a piece of string or ribbon for hanging.

Notes

Customize with ombre effects or marbling. You can also add biodegradable glitter for extra sparkle.
