Ingredients

Materials

  • 1 packet Food-grade gelatin
  • 2 cups Water
  • few drops Natural food coloring (purple)
  • 1 Silicone mold (shapes of your choice)
  • as needed Straws (for creating hanging holes)
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 Measuring cups

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of water with the gelatin powder.
  • Stir the mixture until the gelatin completely dissolves, creating a clear solution.
  • Introduce a few drops of natural purple food coloring.
  • Mix well until the desired shade is achieved.
  • Carefully pour the gelatin solution into silicone molds.
  • Fill them to a level that suits your design.
  • Before the mixture sets, insert a straw horizontally into the top of each mold to create a hole for hanging later on.
  • Let the molds sit at room temperature for 4-6 hours until fully set. You can also refrigerate the molds for faster setting.
  • Once set, carefully remove the sun catchers from the molds.
  • Remove the straw, and your hanging hole is ready for a ribbon!

Notes

Experiment with different colors using other natural food colorings or add dried flowers/herbs for texture. Use any flexible container if you don’t have silicone molds. Swap gelatin with agar-agar for a vegan alternative.
