Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of cornstarch, 2 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of corn syrup.
  • Stir the mixture well until there are no lumps.

Cooking

  • Pour the mixture into a saucepan and heat it over medium heat.
  • Stir continuously until the consistency thickens—this should take around 5-7 minutes. It will resemble a thick pudding.
  • Once thickened, remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Shaping

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Use cookie cutters or molds to press the bioplastic mixture into desired shapes.
  • Gently place the flowers into the mixture, ensuring they’re visible.

Drying

  • Allow the creations to dry for at least 24 hours at room temperature, or use a dehydrator to speed up the process.

Finishing

  • Once dried, carefully remove the sun catchers from the parchment paper.
  • Hang them in your windows and enjoy the shimmering effects of sunshine filtering through the flowers.

Notes

Customize with natural food coloring, swap flowers for herbs, or add biodegradable glitter for extra sparkle.
