Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of cornstarch with 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Whisk until smooth.
  • Add food coloring for a vibrant touch, stirring until you reach the desired color.

Cooking

  • Pour the mixture into a saucepan and heat over medium heat.
  • Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and becomes translucent, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Shaping

  • Once thick, remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Spread the mixture onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper or parchment paper, smoothing it out with your spatula.
  • While the mixture is still malleable, use scissors to cut shapes or a hole punch to make patterns.

Drying

  • Allow the suncatchers to dry for 24-48 hours. Ensure they are completely dry before handling.

Notes

Customize colors with different food coloring, press flowers for added texture, or substitute vinegar with lemon juice. Use cookie cutters for fun shapes. These suncatchers are compostable and not intended for traditional recycling.
