  • 1 cup corn starch Acts as the thickening agent for the bioplastic.
  • 2 cups water Used to create the bioplastic mixture.
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar Helps in the preservation of the bioplastic.
  • various drops food coloring Use to give your suncatchers different colors.

Materials Needed

  • 1 cooking pot For mixing and heating the ingredients.
  • 1 mixing spoon To stir the mixture.
  • 1 wax paper or parchment paper To prevent sticking while drying.
  • as needed cookie cutters or shape molds To shape the bioplastic into fun designs.
  • optional acrylic paint For detailing your suncatchers.
  • as needed string or fishing line For hanging the suncatchers.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Start by mixing 1 cup of corn starch with 2 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in your cooking pot.
  • Stir continuously over medium heat until the mixture thickens—about 3-5 minutes.

Coloring

  • Once the mixture resembles a thick paste, divide it into separate bowls.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix well.

Shaping

  • On a flat surface covered with wax or parchment paper, spoon out the colored bioplastic mixture.
  • Flatten it out into desired shapes or use cookie cutters to create fun designs.

Drying

  • Let the shaped suncatchers dry for 24-48 hours, or until they become firm and completely hard.

Finishing Touches

  • Carefully peel the dried suncatchers from the wax paper.
  • For added details, paint or decorate as desired and use string or fishing line to hang them.

Notes

Experiment with different shapes and colors. Natural dyes can also be utilized. They should be displayed indoors or in sheltered areas.
