Ingredients
  

Suncatcher Mixture

  • 1 cup corn starch Main ingredient for the bioplastic.
  • 2 cups water Combine with corn starch to create the mixture.
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup Helps add flexibility to the finished product.
  • various Food coloring Choose any colors to customize your suncatchers.

Tools

  • 1 parchment paper or silicone baking mat For shaping and drying the suncatchers.
  • 1 mixing bowl For mixing ingredients.
  • 1 saucepan For cooking the mixture.
  • 1 stirring spoon For stirring the mixture.
  • optional cookie cutters To create shapes for the suncatchers.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of corn starch with 2 cups of water.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of corn syrup for added flexibility.
  • Mix well until there are no lumps.

Cooking

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat.
  • Stir continuously as the mixture heats up; it will start to thicken.
  • Once it reaches a gel-like consistency (about 5-7 minutes), remove it from heat.

Coloring

  • Divide the mixture into separate bowls based on the number of colors you want to use.
  • Stir in food coloring to achieve your desired shades.

Shaping

  • Scoop the colored mixtures onto parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Spread the mixture to about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes if desired.

Drying

  • Allow the suncatchers to dry for 24-48 hours, depending on humidity and thickness.
  • You can speed up the process by placing them in a warm, dry spot.

Completion

  • Once dried, carefully peel off the suncatchers and hang them in a sunny window.
  • Delight in the colors and patterns reflecting around your space!

Notes

Customize colors and shapes, and consider adding texture with dried flowers or glitter. Store in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture absorption.
