Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup corn starch Base ingredient for the bioplastic.
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar Acts as a preservative.
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin Can be substituted with vegetable oil if unavailable.
  • 1 cup water To help mix the ingredients.
  • to taste food coloring Optional for adding color.

  • 1 wax paper To spread and dry the mixture.
  • 1 cookie cutters or molds To create shapes.
  • 1 pot For mixing and cooking.
  • 1 stove For heating the mixture.
  • 1 spatula For mixing and shaping.
  • 1 string or fishing line For hanging the completed suncatchers.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a pot, mix the corn starch, vinegar, glycerin, and water. Stir until smooth.
  • Place the pot on the stove over medium heat.
  • Continuously stir until the mixture thickens and becomes a gel-like consistency, about 5-10 minutes.

Shaping

  • Once thickened, remove from heat and optionally add food coloring, mixing until well combined.
  • On a sheet of wax paper, spread the mixture to your desired thickness (about 1/4 inch).
  • Use cookie cutters or molds to create shapes and remove excess with a spatula.

Drying

  • Allow the shapes to dry for at least 24 hours until firm but slightly flexible.

Finishing Touches

  • Once dry, carefully peel the suncatchers from the wax paper.
  • Puncture a small hole at the top and thread a string or fishing line for hanging.

Notes

Customize colors with natural dyes; consider adding fine glitter or small dried flowers for texture. For outdoor displays, apply a coat of clear, biodegradable varnish.
