Ingredients
  

Base Mixture

  • 1 cup cornstarch Use regular cornstarch.
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup

Colors and Tools

  • as needed food coloring (various colors)
  • as needed cookie cutters (various shapes) For shaping the suncatchers.
  • as needed wax paper To place the shaped suncatchers on.
  • 1 stove or hot plate For cooking the mixture.
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 spoon
  • as needed thin string or fishing line For hanging the completed suncatchers.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of cornstarch, 1 cup of water, and 2 tablespoons of corn syrup.
  • Stir until the mixture is smooth, removing lumps for even cooking.

Cooking

  • Pour the mixture into a pot and place it on medium heat.
  • Stir continuously until it thickens, about 5 minutes.

Adding Color

  • Remove the pot from heat. Divide the mixture into separate bowls if using multiple colors.
  • Add food coloring to each bowl and mix well until you achieve the desired shades.

Shaping

  • Lay out pieces of wax paper on a flat surface.
  • Use cookie cutters to shape the mixture onto the wax paper, leaving small openings for hanging.

Drying

  • Allow the suncatchers to dry completely, which may take 24 hours or more.
  • For quicker drying, use a dehydrator set to low.

Finishing Touch

  • Once dry, gently peel the suncatchers from the wax paper.
  • Use a thin string or fishing line to hang them up and enjoy!

Notes

Experiment with seasonal themes and colors for more variety. Consider using natural dyes for an eco-friendly twist.
