Materials for Bioplastics Sun Tongs

  • 100 grams Bioplastics (such as PLA pellets) Available in craft stores.
  • 1 unit A heat source (like a double boiler or hot water bath) Use for melting bioplastics.
  • 1 unit Molds for shaping the tongs (silicone molds work nicely) Ensure molds are suitable for the design.
  • 1 unit A mixing tool (wooden spoon or silicone spatula) For stirring the melted bioplastics.
  • optional amount Food-safe mineral oil To enhance the finish.
  • 1 pair Heat-resistant gloves For safety while handling hot materials.

Preparation

  • Begin by preparing the bioplastics. Measure out the pellets according to the size of your mold.
  • Heat your water in a double boiler over medium heat.
  • Once the water is warm, add the bioplastics to the top section of the double boiler and stir them softly with your mixing tool.

Molding

  • Carefully pour the melted bioplastics into your mold.
  • Allow the bioplastics to cool and set in the mold for about fifteen to twenty minutes.
  • Gently release the tongs from the mold.
  • If desired, apply food-safe mineral oil to the surface for a lovely finish.

Notes

Store your Bioplastics Sun Tongs in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. They can be washed with warm, soapy water.
