Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups Birdseed mix (preferably unsalted)
  • 1 cup Water Use a 2:1 seed-to-water ratio

Tools

  • Silicone molds or bundt pans For shaping the ornaments
  • Twine or string (optional) For hanging the ornaments
  • Cooking spray (optional) Optional for bundt pans to ease removal

Instructions

Preparation

  • If you’re using silicone molds, no need to grease them. For bundt pans, lightly spray with cooking spray to ease removal.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine your birdseed mix with water in a 2:1 seed-to-water ratio. Stir until the seeds are evenly coated. The mixture should be wet but not overly soupy.

Molding

  • Spoon the birdseed mixture into your chosen molds. Press down firmly with your fingers to pack the seeds tightly together.
  • If you’d like to hang your ornaments, insert a length of twine or string into each mold, ensuring it’s submerged in the mixture.

Freezing

  • Place the filled molds in the freezer and allow them to freeze for several hours or overnight.

Finishing

  • Once frozen solid, gently remove the ornaments from the molds by twisting or gently pulling. If they seem stuck, run a bit of warm water over the outside of the mold.
  • Hang or place your ornaments outdoors and enjoy watching the birds!

Notes

Experiment with different types of seeds and mold shapes for variety. Consider adding dried fruits or nuts for extra appeal. Avoid using glitter as it can be harmful to wildlife.
