  • 3 pieces Blue crayons (or your choice of color)
  • 2 sheets Wax paper Cut into desired size
  • 1 unit Iron For melting crayon shavings
  • 1 sheet Parchment paper To protect the iron and wax paper
  • 1 unit Scissors For cutting shapes from melted crayon
  • 1 optional Hole punch For creating a hole for string
  • 1 unit String or ribbon For hanging the suncatcher

Instructions

Preparation

  • Clear a flat surface and lay down newspaper to catch any crayon shavings.
  • Use a sharpener or knife to shave blue crayons into small, thin pieces, ensuring uniform size for even melting.
  • Cut two pieces of wax paper about the size of your desired suncatcher. Place one piece on the flat surface.

Assembly

  • Sprinkle the shaved crayon pieces evenly over the wax paper.
  • Place the second piece of wax paper over the crayon shavings, pressing gently.

Melting

  • Preheat your iron to a low setting.
  • Place a sheet of parchment paper over the wax paper sandwich.
  • Gently press the iron on top of the parchment paper for a few seconds until the crayons start to melt.

Finishing Touches

  • Allow the wax paper to cool slightly. Once set, carefully peel apart the layers.
  • Cut out desired shapes from your melted crayon masterpiece.
  • (Optional) Use the hole punch to create a hole for string.
  • Tie with string or ribbon for hanging.

Notes

Experiment with different crayon colors to create a rainbow effect. Consider adult supervision during melting, especially with young children. Clean up by letting wax cool and peel off surfaces, then wipe clean.
