Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 cup warm water Warm water helps dissolve the borax.
  • 3 tablespoons borax Found in the laundry aisle, essential for crystal formation.
  • a few drops blue food coloring Use to color the crystals.
  • 1 clean glass jar clean glass jar To hold the borax solution.
  • 1 string or thread To create the star shape.
  • 1 pencil or stick For suspending the string in the jar.
  • optional: glitter For adding sparkle.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a clean glass jar, pour 1 cup of warm water.
  • Carefully add 3 tablespoons of borax to the water.
  • Stir gently until the borax is fully dissolved.
  • Add a few drops of blue food coloring to achieve your desired color.

Creating the Star Shape

  • Cut a piece of string about 12 inches long.
  • Tie the string into a star shape, ensuring the knots are tight.
  • Attach the star shape to the center of another piece of string about 8-10 inches long.

Suspending in Solution

  • Place a pencil or stick across the top of the jar.
  • Hang the star shape from the stick using the longer piece of string, ensuring it is submerged in the borax solution but not touching the bottom of the jar.

Let It Grow

  • Allow the jar to sit undisturbed in a cool place for several hours or overnight.
  • As the solution cools, crystals will start to form on the surface of the star.

Finishing Touch

  • Once the crystals have formed to your liking, carefully remove the star from the jar.
  • Rinse it gently in cool water to remove excess borax and allow it to dry.

Notes

You can experiment with different colors and sizes of the stars. Consider adding glitter for an extra sparkle!
