Ingredients
  

Materials Needed

  • 1 cup Borax powder
  • 3 cups Water (hot) Boiling water works best.
  • various pieces Pipe cleaners (various colors) Shape them into flowers.
  • 1 jar A glass jar or container This will hold the Borax solution.
  • 1 piece String or fishing line Used to suspend the flowers.
  • 1 piece A pencil or stick To balance across the top of the jar.
  • optional Food coloring To add color to the crystals.

Preparation

  • Twist and bend the pipe cleaners into flower shapes.

Prepare the Borax Solution

  • Boil about 3 cups of water until hot.
  • Gradually stir 1 cup of Borax powder into the hot water until it dissolves completely.
  • If desired, mix in a few drops of food coloring for a vibrant look.

Suspend the Flowers

  • Tie a piece of string to your pipe cleaner flower.
  • Lay a pencil or stick across the top of the jar and dangle the flower from the string into the Borax solution, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom.

Let the Crystals Form

  • Place your jar in a quiet spot where it won’t be disturbed.
  • Leave it for at least 6 hours or overnight.

Remove and Rinse

  • Gently pull the flowers from the solution after they have crystallized.
  • Rinse them under warm water to remove excess Borax, then let them dry.

Notes

Experiment with different color combinations and shapes for unique effects. Store the crystal flowers in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
