  • optional Food coloring For coloring the crystals.
  • 1 stove or kettle A stove or kettle For heating water.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Take a length of string or pipe cleaner and shape it into your desired gem design (like a star or heart).
  • Make sure it can fit comfortably into your jar or bowl.

Create the Saturated Solution

  • Boil 3 cups of water using your stove or kettle.
  • Carefully add 1 cup of Borax to the hot water, stirring until it fully dissolves.
  • You should notice a slightly cloudy solution.

Color Your Crystals (Optional)

  • Add a few drops of food coloring to the solution if you want colored crystals.
  • Stir gently to mix the color evenly.

Suspend Your Shape

  • Tie one end of your string to the pencil or stick.
  • Place the other end into the solution so that the shape stays suspended without touching the bottom.

Crystallization Process

  • Leave your jar or bowl undisturbed in a cool place.
  • Over the next 6-12 hours, you’ll begin to see crystals forming on your shape.

Completion

  • Once the crystals have formed to your desired size, remove the shape from the solution.
  • Allow it to dry on a paper towel.

Notes

Customize your gems by experimenting with different shapes, sizes, and colors. You can swap Borax with Epsom salt or sugar for a different texture. Add glitter to the solution for extra sparkle.
