Instructions

Preparation

  • Twist and bend the pipe cleaners into desired shapes (stars, hearts, etc.). Ensure they have enough surface area for crystals to attach.

Creating the Borax Solution

  • Boil 1 cup of water in a pot.
  • Gradually add 3 tablespoons of Borax, stirring continuously until fully dissolved.
  • Tip: You can add food coloring to the solution for colored crystals!

Suspending the Shape

  • Ensure the shape hangs freely without touching the bottom of the jar.

Pouring the Solution

  • Carefully pour the Borax solution into the glass jar.
  • Place the pencil/stick across the top of the jar, suspending your shape in the solution.

Waiting

  • Crystals will start forming within a few hours, but allow it to sit overnight for best results.

Removing Crystals

  • Once satisfied with the size, remove the pipe cleaner from the jar.
  • Rinse gently under warm water to eliminate any excess Borax.

Notes

Customize your colors by mixing different food coloring shades to create a rainbow effect. Try different shapes for unique crystal formations. You can also use salt or sugar instead of Borax for different textures and styles. Adjust the amount of Borax and water to create larger or smaller crystals.
