Ingredients
For the crystal solution
- 1 cup Borax powder
- 2 cups boiling water Must be boiling for the best results.
For shaping and hanging
- Glass jar or bowl To hold the solution.
- Pipe cleaners Shaped into hearts.
- Pencil or stick For suspending the pipe cleaner in the solution.
- Food coloring Optional for colored ornaments.
- String or ribbon For hanging the finished ornaments.
- Hot glue Optional, for securing decorations.
Instructions
Prepare the Solution
- Boil water until it reaches a rolling boil.
- Gradually add Borax to the boiling water, stirring until fully dissolved to create a clear liquid.
Shape the Pipe Cleaners
- Take a pipe cleaner and shape it into a heart, twisting to secure the shape.
- Leave some extra length at the top for a hook to allow it to suspend in the solution.
Suspend and Secure
- Tie the top of the heart-shaped pipe cleaner to a pencil or stick.
- Place the pencil across the jar so the heart hangs down into the Borax solution without touching the bottom.
Let It Grow
- Leave the jar undisturbed for 6-12 hours and watch the crystal growth.
- Observe as beautiful crystals begin forming on the heart.
Notes
Add food coloring for vibrant ornaments. You can make different shapes using pipe cleaners besides hearts. Secure decorations using hot glue as desired.
