Materials for Crystal Ornaments

  • 1 cup Borax
  • 3 cups hot water Boil this water before mixing with Borax.
  • 1 piece pipe cleaner (preferably in star shapes) You can use different shapes like snowflakes or hearts.
  • 1 piece glass jar or container Make sure it's large enough to fit the pipe cleaner star.
  • 1 piece string To suspend the star if needed.
  • 1 spoon spoon for stirring
  • optional food coloring For colored crystals.
  • 1 piece small pot for boiling water

Instructions

Preparation

  • Take your pipe cleaner and bend it into a star shape. Ensure it’s not too large to fit in your jar comfortably. Twist the ends to secure the shape.
  • Boil 3 cups of water in a pot.
  • Remove from heat and add 1 cup of Borax, stirring until fully dissolved. The solution should be clear.
  • If you’d like colored crystals, mix in a few drops of food coloring to the solution.
  • Carefully place your pipe cleaner star into the jar filled with the Borax solution, ensuring it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom. Use string to suspend it if needed.
  • Allow the jar to sit undisturbed for at least 6 hours (or overnight) to let the crystals form.
  • After sufficient time has passed, gently remove your star from the solution. Place it on a paper towel or rack to dry completely.

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations for unique effects. Create other shapes like snowflakes or hearts with pipe cleaners. Adjust the size of pipe cleaners to create different sizes of ornaments.
