  • 2 cups baking soda Easy to find
  • 1 cup citric acid Also called sour salt; adds fizz
  • 1 cup cornstarch Helps create that soft dough
  • 1 cup water Use warm for a softer texture
  • 1 tablespoon essential oils For calming scents; optional
  • to taste Food coloring To add a splash of color; optional

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm water and essential oils.
  • Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients while stirring gently.
  • Once combined, use your hands to knead the dough.
  • If the mixture is too dry, add a touch more water, a teaspoon at a time.
  • If using food coloring, add it now and knead until the color spreads evenly.
  • Form the dough into small balls or shapes.

Usage

  • Take a small handful of the dough and toss it into warm bath water.
  • Watch as it releases bubbles and enjoys the calming scents.

Notes

Store the dough in a glass jar or airtight container in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. If it dries out, add a few drops of water to soften.
