Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1 cup citric acid
  • 1 cup cornstarch

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup liquid soap (like Castile soap)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • food coloring (optional) For adding color
  • essential oils (optional) For scent

Tools

  • mixing bowls
  • mixing spoons
  • airtight container for storage

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of baking soda, 1 cup of citric acid, and 1 cup of cornstarch. Ensure there are no lumps for even consistency.
  • In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup of liquid soap and 1/2 cup of water. If using, add a few drops of food coloring and essential oils at this stage for desired scent and color.
  • Slowly pour the wet mixture into the bowl with dry ingredients. Stir continuously to prevent fizzing; you want to achieve a dough-like consistency.
  • Once combined, use your hands to knead the dough. This will help incorporate all ingredients fully while giving it a smooth, pliable texture.
  • Shape the dough into molds or store it in an airtight container. If shaping, make sure to let them dry for about 24 hours before using.

Notes

Experiment with different food colors to create unique shades or swirls. Try different essential oils like lavender for relaxation or citrus for energizing effects. For a softer dough, consider adding a tablespoon of coconut oil or baby oil. Use cookie cutters for fun shapes, or make balls and other playful forms.
