Ingredients

For the foam

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup liquid dish soap
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • Food coloring (optional)

Materials

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk or spoon for mixing
  • 1 container for storage (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1 cup of water.
  • Use a whisk or spoon to blend until you reach a smooth consistency.
  • Slowly mix in 1/2 cup of liquid dish soap to your baking soda mixture. Stir gently, as this may create some bubbles.
  • If you want to add a splash of color, incorporate a few drops of food coloring into the mixture and stir until the color is evenly dispersed.
  • In a separate bowl or cup, combine 1/4 cup of white vinegar.
  • When you’re ready for the bubbling effect, slowly pour the vinegar into the surfacing mixture and watch as your foam comes to life, bubbling and expanding!

Storage

  • Once you’re done playing, store your Bubbling Blizzard Sensory Foam in a container to minimize mess and keep it fresh.
  • This foam can be used multiple times, though it may start to lose its bubbly effect over time.

Notes

Customize your foam with different food coloring shades, add glitter for sparkle, or try different scents with scented dish soap or essential oils. Scale up the recipe for larger batches and use it creatively in sensory bins.
