  • 1 bottle Clear plastic bottle with lid Pint or quart size
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1-2 tablespoons Clear glue or glycerin To create a thicker liquid
  • 1-2 pieces Small butterfly figurines or foam shapes
  • 1 handful Colorful sequins or glitter
  • 1 piece Green craft foam For creating leaf shapes
  • 1-2 drops Food coloring Optional for added color
  • 1 piece Funnel For easy filling
  • 1 pair Scissors To cut craft foam

Preparation

  • Ensure the plastic bottles are clean and dry, removing any labels for a clear view inside.

Creating the Liquid Base

  • Use the funnel to pour water into the bottle, filling it about halfway.
  • Add a few drops of clear glue or glycerin to the water to create a thicker consistency.

Adding Butterfly and Decorations

  • Drop in the butterfly figurines along with colorful sequins or glitter for visual interest.
  • Cut small shapes from the green craft foam to represent leaves and place them inside.

Color It Up

  • If desired, add a drop of food coloring to enhance the visual effect of your sensory bottle.

Sealing the Bottle

  • Securely tighten the lid on the bottle to prevent leaks.
  • For extra security, you can use tape around the lid.

Engage and Explore

  • Shake the bottle and watch the butterflies, sequins, and other decorative elements swirl and settle.
  • Encourage children to observe and talk about what they see.

Notes

Customize the butterflies using printable cutouts, change sensory elements for different textures, or add sound elements for a richer experience. Always supervise young children during this activity.
