Ingredients
  

For the chalk paint dough

  • 1 cup cornstarch Can be substituted with flour for a different texture.
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup water Add gradually to avoid lumps.
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar Creates a fizzing reaction when mixed.
  • food coloring or liquid watercolors Use to customize colors.

Mixing the Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cornstarch and baking soda. Ensure they are well mixed.
  • Slowly stir in the white vinegar until a fizzing reaction occurs.
  • Gradually add 1 cup of water, stirring continuously until the mixture is smooth without lumps.

Cooking the Dough

  • Transfer the mixture to a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Stir continuously as it begins to thicken and form a dough-like consistency.
  • Once it pulls away from the sides and resembles dough (around 3–5 minutes), remove it from the heat.

Coloring the Dough

  • Divide the dough into separate bowls and add food coloring or liquid watercolors to each bowl.
  • Knead until the color is evenly distributed.

Storage

  • Allow the dough to cool before transferring it to an airtight container for storage.
  • It can last up to a week if kept airtight.

Notes

For a smoother finish, blend the dough for a minute after mixing. Add a few drops of essential oils for an aromatic crafting experience.
