Suncatcher Materials

- as needed Tissue paper or colored transparent plastic Old CDs or glass pieces can also be used.
- 1 pair Scissors For cutting the materials.
- 1 pair Wire cutters For cutting the chicken wire.
- 1 roll Wire or twine for hanging To create a loop for displaying the suncatcher.
- 1 bottle Clear craft glue or mod podge To adhere the colored materials.
- 1 piece Paintbrush Optional, for applying glue.
- 1 piece Pencil For sketching designs.
Instructions
Preparation
- Cut a piece of chicken wire to your desired size using wire cutters. Aim for a square or a fun shape like a heart or a star.
- Lay your chicken wire flat on a work surface.
Designing
- Place your colorful tissue paper or materials over the chicken wire.
- Use a pencil to create an outline or design on the wire as a guideline.
Attaching Colors
- Tear or cut the tissue paper into various shapes.
- Apply a thin layer of clear craft glue to the areas of the wire where you want to stick the papers.
- Press the tissue papers onto the glue, ensuring they are adhered well.
Framing
- If desired, bend the edges of the chicken wire to create a frame around your suncatcher, adding structure.
- You can twist the edges of the wire together to secure them.
Hanging Mechanism
- Use wire or twine to create a loop at the top of your suncatcher for hanging.
- Make sure it is securely tied or twisted.
Display
- Find a sunny window and hang your suncatcher. Enjoy the play of light and colors that enter your space!
Notes
Experiment with different layering techniques using various materials like beads or glitter. Try using old glass pieces or mesh instead of tissue paper for a different effect.
