Ingredients

Materials

  • 1 box Blue crayons (old or new) Can be used crayons that are old or new.
  • 2 sheets Wax paper Can also use parchment paper as an alternative.
  • 1 sheet Parchment paper Alternative to wax paper.
  • 1 unit An iron For melting the crayon pieces.
  • 1 unit Scissors For cutting shapes out of the melted crayon.
  • 1 unit Hole puncher To create a hole for hanging.
  • 1 roll String or ribbon For hanging the finished suncatchers.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Unwrap the blue crayons and break them into small pieces (about 1-inch long). The more pieces you use, the more vibrant your suncatcher will be.
  • Cut two pieces of wax paper to your desired size and lay one piece flat on a heat-resistant surface.

Creating the Suncatcher

  • Spread the broken pieces of blue crayon evenly across the wax paper, leaving some space between each piece for melting.
  • Place the second piece of wax paper on top and set your iron to a low setting (no steam). Gently press down on top of the paper for a few seconds until the crayon pieces begin to melt. Carefully lift the top layer and check the melting progress.
  • Allow the melted crayon to cool completely before peeling apart the wax paper.
  • Cut out desired shapes or leave it as a rectangle.
  • Use the hole puncher to create a hole at the top and thread a piece of string or ribbon through the hole for hanging.

Notes

Experiment with color combinations, layering shapes, or add glitter for extra sparkle. Store suncatchers flat in a cool, dry place to avoid warping or damage.
