Materials for Coffee Filter Flowers

  • 10 pieces White coffee filters Regular or large, easy to find
  • 5 pieces Water-based markers or food coloring Vibrant shades bring life
  • 2 pieces Small bowls or cups For mixing colors
  • 1 piece Scissors Smoothly cut to create petals
  • 5 pieces Pipe cleaners or floral wire For stems and securing the petals
  • 1 piece Spray bottle Optional, for a colorful mist
  • 1 piece A tray or workspace To catch any drips or spills

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by selecting your coffee filters and, if you choose, lightly crumple them for added texture before flattening them out again.
  • Using markers or food coloring, add splashes of color to your filters. Allow your creativity to flow freely; the colors will blend beautifully as they soak through.
  • If using a spray bottle, gently mist the filters with water to encourage the colors to run and mix.
  • Let the filters dry completely, which can take an hour or two.

Assembly

  • Once dry, stack multiple filters on top of each other, experimenting with layering different colors and textures.
  • Gently pinch the center of the stacked filters to gather them, then secure the base with a pipe cleaner or floral wire.
  • Shape the petals by gently pulling and fluffing them into your desired flower look.
  • Lastly, trim the base of your flowers to your liking for a natural or tidier finish.

Notes

These flowers can be stored in a box or container that allows for airflow to maintain their shape and color. They can be refreshed with new colors for different occasions.
