Ingredients

Materials Needed

  • 5 pieces Coffee filters (white or natural) Easy to find in stores
  • 1 set Water-based markers (bright colors) Choose colors that inspire you
  • 1 piece Scissors Preferably small and easy to handle
  • 1 piece Pipe cleaners or floral wire For ease of shaping
  • 1 piece Spray bottle Optional for added blending
  • 1 piece Cardboard or a tray To catch any mess
  • 1 piece Soft cloth or towel To clean your hands

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by laying out the coffee filters on your workspace. Feel their texture and notice the lightness.
  • Use your markers to color the filters, experimenting with swirling colors together to create gradients or patterns.
  • Stack 3 to 5 colored filters together for a fuller flower.
  • Pinch the stack gently in the center, enabling the filters to bend together.
  • Twist a pipe cleaner around the pinched center to create the stem.
  • Gently open up the top layers of the filters to shape them into petals.
  • Optionally, lightly spritz the petals with water for a watercolor effect.
  • Set aside the flowers to dry, if necessary, before displaying.

Notes

Store your finished coffee filter flowers in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight to preserve color. You can disassemble the flowers to reuse materials as inspiration strikes.
